TM Event at Urban Zen

On June 6th, Urban Zen joined forces with the David Lynch Foundation to host an event celebrating the launch of Operation Warrior Wellness-NYC. Film director David Lynch's organization has been promoting Transcendental Meditation as a catalyst for peace around the world. Now they are focusing on putting an end to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. The event at Donna Karan's Urban Zen headquarters on Greenwich Street brought together TM practitioners as well as those that were new to the practice. Lynch, who has been meditating since the 1970's and was a personal friend of TM founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, told me that TM has helped his creativity but more importantly his entire life and consciousness. His organization has been helping Native American Indians, at-risk youth, and now the military. At the cocktail reception which spilled out onto a very zen-like garden, I met Captain Tom O'Neil who was there on a first date with a self described "former army brat" Qi Chi Webster. When I spoke to them beside the Koi pond it was revealed that not only was it a first date but a blind one as well. Pleasantly surprised, the dashing Marine discovered his date to be a beauty as well as a Kung Fu expert right out of Tarantino's "Kill Bill". Heading back to Afghanistan in the near future, Captain O'Neil hopes that learning TM might balance the other ch'i and help with the demands of his military appointment. Somehow I think the lovely Qi Chi might also do the trick!
